Description: Polyphemus pediculus is the only species of the genus in North America. It is another atypical cladoceran. Polyphemus is predacious. Its huge eye, seeming to take up all the head region, separates Polyphemus from other cladocerans. Specimens are often found at lake margins but also occur in vegetation of marshes and ponds.
