Description: Members of the family Macrothricidae are widely distributed in North America including Alberta. Perhaps as many as six genera occur in Alberta. Macrothricid specimens can usually be separated from specimens other families by having long flexible first antennae (antennules) inserted at the anterior end of the head. Ophryoxus gracilis is often found at the edge of lakes in vegetation. Photograph: Randy Mandryk. From slide material of the National Museum of Natural Sciences, Ottawa, courtesy of R. Chengalath.
